Active European Youths

Project supported by the Bristish Council and the Youth in Action programme of the European Commission.

PRESENTATION OF ACTIVE EUROPEAN YOUTHS:

The project included Everything Possible CIC’s six coordinated host projects, which are based in Leeds and the local area.  - South Parade Baptist Church (SPBC), Leeds Youth Service, Thorner School, Thorner Pre School, BEES, The British Red Cross. The type of EVS projects will include volunteering with children and youths through non formal learning, there were a range of age ranges benefiting from these projects from 3 – 19 year olds. The themes of the host projects centred around European Awareness and Youth Leisure. Through non formal activities the volunteers worked with the young people in a European dimension through increasing awareness of Europe through, language, culture and food. The participation of young people in EVS was a priortity in all these projects and with 2011 being the year of the European Volunteer this project aimed to provide positive role models in communities, some of which are disadvantaged.

The objectives set were in line with the European Year of the Volunteer 2011, both the volunteers and the host organisations were able to promote young peoples citizenship. The project supported and provided a platform for volunteers to increase their understanding between young people in different countries through the accommodation provided by Everything Possible CIC and through the young people they worked with at their projects. The volunteers lived together, share cultural experiences together in which there were 3 nationalities involved; Spain, France and Germany.

The duration of the project was 7 months from 5th January 2012 –  5th August 2012. The activities that the volunteers were involved in were all the non formal sessions and workshops that include the volunteer being creative and also participating in their own personal project. The learning outcomes and development was key to each placement, regular supervisions and three way meetings also including Everything Possible CIC staff ensured that this happened.  The methods to ensure learning outcomes were achieved is through the use of the YouthPass tool which has also been very sucessful during the 2010/2011 EVS placements.

DISSEMINATION

- NEW YEAR NEW START, 25th January (LEEDS):
The 25th January 2011, Everything is Possible was a the event ''New Year, New Start'', organised by Europe Direct and the Leeds Library. During this day we met around 50 young people and social workers and presented our EVS project, using testimonies and feedback from our hosting EVS volunteers.

Regarding the promotion of this event, the Probation Service’s ‘Community Payback’ scheme has finished leaflets door to door in an area that covers approximately 6,500 households, according to the Leeds Library. Local schools have been provided with leaflets for their pupils to take home. Library members, for some of whom we have emails, have been emailed. Previous users of the Library’s Jobseekers advice service as well as local community groups have been emailed. The event's webpage has had over 1100 hits so far.

- OPEN DAY - European Opportunities Abroad, 8th May 2012 (LEEDS):
There are many international opportunities funded by the European Commission (Volunteering, Training, Workshop, etc), but few are known by the public. For this reason, Everything is Possible and Europe Direct decided to celebrate the European Day by sharing these international opportunities during an Open Day on the 9th May at the Leeds Central Library.

We prepared an open market from 13.00 to 19.00 where people discovered, European opportunities abroad. Everything is Possible volunteering and training projects were discussed with the public. Former volunteers were there as well to share their experience. We shared testimonies and feedback from our hosting EVS volunteers and our experience through the project ''Active European Youths''

We also ran two info sessions during which we presented volunteering and training projects overseas.

Around 70 young people came during this day and nearly 30 expressed an interest to learn more about the volunteering and training projects.

The next Wednesday 16th May, Everything is Possible with the support of Leeds Direct  organised at the Leeds Central Library a second session with 20 of this young people interested by a short term projects. The following weekend we organised another meeting for those who wanted to do a long term project.

- WELCOMING MEETING with our hosting EVS volunteers (With Youth In Mind), 14th September 2012 (LEEDS):
